Common questions and the honest answers from Sisu’s very own doctors.

Q: How does Botox™:Dysport™ help correct a gummy smile?

A: Sisu Clinic’s Botox™:Dysport™ for gummy smile treatment is designed to relax the muscles in the upper lip so the lip no longer rests high on the gum line, which is what causes a “gummy smile”. The treatment is performed using Botox™:Dysport™, placed in the upper lip, as well as in-between the nose and upper lip area. Many patients comment on how the treatment reduces the appearance of overexposed gums and helps create a more natural-looking smile. Results are generally visible one week after treatment.

Q: Is Botox™:Dysport™ for gummy smile permanent?

A: Botox™:Dysport™ treatments are not permanent no matter how and what they are used to treat. In most cases, patients will enjoy the results of Botox™:Dysport™ for gummy smile for up to 3 months. The treatment can then be repeated every 3-4 months, depending on your desired results and your medical provider’s recommendation.

Q: Will Botox™:Dysport™ for gummy smile hurt?

A: All Botox™:Dysport™ treatments performed at Sisu Clinic are non-invasive and relatively quick and painless procedures. Most patient who receive Botox™:Dysport™ for gummy smile do not encounter any complications, and any side effects reported are generally minimal and resolve on their own within 24 hours. As always, please contact your medical provider if you have questions or concerns.

Q: Will lip fillers help correct a gummy smile?

A: Lip fillers cannot correct a gummy smile. At Sisu Clinic, a lip augmentation treatment is used to add volume and definition to your lip area, however, it will not remedy overexposed gums. At Sisu Clinic, our medical doctors use Botox™:Dysport™ injections to reduce the size of your gummy smile.
