Can You Get Botox Whilst Pregnant?

Can You Get Botox Whilst Pregnant?

“Can I get Botox while pregnant?” This is a question our SISU doctors are asked on a daily basis. Everyone wants to look good and feel their best and in order to achieve that goal, many patients turn to cosmetic procedures for that little confidence boost.

Botox injections are the most popular treatment we do here at Sisu Clinic as they truly work wonders. From reducing the appearance of your wrinkles to getting rid of deep lines that can develop around your eyes—Botox injections are a way to make these go away (temporarily!) and make you look and feel your best.

Botox injections are also a way to treat chronic migraines and the overproduction of sweat, and can help your jaw muscles relax and stop you from grinding/clenching your jaw and damaging your teeth in the process!

Many patients at Sisu start getting Botox around their late twenties and continue this process every 12 weeks or so up until they wish! This is also a time when most people plan to start their families! So... if I want to start a family, do I need to give up getting Botox while I’m pregnant? Keep on reading to find out more!

What Is Botox and Can I Get It While I'm Pregnant?

Can You Get Botox While You're Pregnant?

Botox, our anti-wrinkle injection, is the brand name of a product made up of a neurotoxin created by a bacterium called Clostridium Botulinum. The product prevents causes mini paralysis in the muscles and when injected in small amounts, the muscles injected become relaxed. It is FDA approved for 11 therapeutic indications, including migraines, sweating, and wrinkles, amongst its other uses.

This makes it completely safe to get Botox at certain stages of your life—but keep in mind, we would NOT recommend getting Botox while pregnant.

If you have been a fan of Botox at any of our Sisu Clinics, it has more than likely become a routine treatment for you. Every 12 weeks or so, we see thousands of patients for their Botox top-ups and many of these patients do not think much into it other than how good it is going to make them look and feel afterwards!

However, if you are in the stages of planning your family and getting pregnant—now is the time to think a bit more about Botox…

Botox Whilst Pregnant…

DO YOUR RESEARCH!

At Sisu Clinic, we do not treat patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding with any of our injectable treatments—including Botox. We simply do not feel comfortable injecting foreign materials into your body whilst you are pregnant or breastfeeding!

To put it in simpler terms, there just isn’t enough research in the world of aesthetic medicine that suggests it is safe to use during pregnancy! As this research continues to develop over time, we would suggest stopping the use of any fillers or Botox during your pregnancy.

Amazing things happen to your body while pregnant and the “pregnancy glow” is very much real, thus you will not need any fillers or Botox while you are pregnant!

What About… Breastfeeding?

Now, you aren’t pregnant anymore and your long-awaited baby is finally born. How exciting—congratulations from the SISU Family! You haven’t been able to do a few things while pregnant, such as getting your Botox or dermal filler top-ups. Does this mean you can now go to your nearest Sisu Clinic and book your appointment?

Hold up!

If you’re planning on breastfeeding your baby, you may just have to hold on a little longer. Similarly to getting Botox while pregnant, there has been no solid research done on the topics of Botox and breastfeeding, thus it is unknown whether Botox passes into breast milk.

We recommend putting your Botox injections on hold while you’re breastfeeding until more safety information is available!

Botox… When Can I Start Again After Pregnancy?

At Sisu Clinic we have thousands of patients who made getting Botox a part of their routines, so it is absolutely normal to miss getting your injection top-ups while pregnant and breastfeeding. The question remains: “when can I start again?"

Our Sisu doctors recommend waiting until after pregnancy and breastfeeding to restart your Botox injections. For the safety of yourself and the baby, we urge you to wait!

Even if you use Botox for medical, rather than cosmetic purposes, we would recommend coming into SISU and having a discussion with your doctor!
